Heavy rains early Saturday swamped the Cowtown Marathon’s electronic timing system, delaying results and causing accuracy problems.
Marty Leicht, who owns and operates Integrated Racing System Inc., spent hours after the races reviewing videotape to verify results. Complete results were still unavailable Saturday night.
A router that transfers runners’ data was drenched, Leicht said.
“We know now to use waterproof cases,” he said.
A notice posted on the Cowtown Web site said that results were delayed “a little,” and would be posted first thing Sunday morning.
Leicht said he was 95 percent sure that the names announced during the award ceremony were those of the correct winners.
Timing is kept by a chip imbedded in runners’ bibs using radio frequency identification, or RFID. When runners pass through readers, the information from their chip is relayed to a computer.
“I don’t care what you are doing, if it is electrical and involves water, then you have issues,” Leicht said.
“We are just making sure everything is right.”
Along with the problem with the router, runners in the 10K, half-marathon and marathon raced on an altered course that took them away from a flooded area in Trinity Park.
