Big Strides:Yankee Homecoming Races have become a big-time event
When Yankee Homecoming Race Director Jon Pearson thinks about the Yankee Homecoming 5K and 10-mile races 20 years ago, his smile is evident through a phone line.
Sponsors were a little hard to come by back then, but there were always two he could count on: beer and running shoe companies.
“It is much easier now,” noted Pearson, who has 14 sponsors for this year’s races, most of which approached him. “Sponsors look for events of this size.”
The 45th running of the Yankee Homecoming 5K and 10-mile road races will be held Tuesday at 6:25 (5K) and 6:35 (10-mile) beginning and ending at Newburyport High School.
