Run For the Schools 2006
Thanks for joining us for the 8th annual Run for the Schools festival of races here in Iowa City.
This is the 28th year Iowa City Road Races, Inc. has hosted a fall fitness event that benefits local organizations. Run for the Schools participants are a wide range of folks who run or walk to show support for Iowa City Schools Participants also collect donations to benefit the schools.
Over the past six years, Run for the Schools has raised more than $125,000 for the schools. Sponsors are a huge reason for our success. Special thanks goes to our title sponsor, Iowa State Bank & Trust Company, and to our many other loyal, local sponsors. We are proud to carry on this great Iowa City fall tradition.

Maha: Boy falls after running 68 kms
A seven-year-old marathoner from Orissa on Sunday showed his long-distance running prowess to the people of Mumbai, by running nearly 68 km to spread the message of peace even as he collapsed at least 12 km before the scheduled finishing point.
Mrutunjay Mandal marathoned his way from Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district to Peddar Road in south Mumbai, where he collapsed and could not reach the scheduled final destination, Gateway of India, of the 80-km run, according to the organisers.The Standard III student from Orissa’s silk city Berhampur, began running at 4 am from Durgadi fort in Kalyan collapsed about 12 km before the final destiantion, said Shrikant Kumar Padhi, president of the Rashtriya Oriya Yuvak Pratishtan, which organised the marathon for spreading peace and harmony.

Man Collapses and Dies While Running
Police say a participant running in the Lake Superior Shore Run collapsed and died, around 11 a.m. this morning, in Marquette Township.
According to Michigan State Police, 61 year-old Collen Douglas Fix of Escanaba suffered an apparent heart attack while running on a trail near Harlow Lake Road.
Fix was transported to Marquette General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
