Former Bismarck man picked to run 26-mile London marathon hopes to raise $10k for cancer

Anne Bloom Hutchison, of Bismarck, sat on a beach in Hawaii recently, soaking in sun and a tropical drink while watching the view, an inspirational view - her son, Ryan Bloom, working, pounding his way across the beach, running in the sand. Getting ready.

Ryan Bloom, 28, a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant recently returned from South Korea, is getting ready, after a family-reunion Hawaii trip, for his next assignment - England.

He’ll not only live there three years. He’s going to be running there.

Bloom competed in 2005 in what is considered to be the hardest 26.2-mile marathon in the world, the Bataan Memorial Death March in the desert in New Mexico. He ran it in full military gear, combat boots and a backpack with 35 pounds - just to see if he could do it. The first 16 miles were mainly uphill. But he completed it in about five hours. He spend some time running through foot-deep sand, lost three toenails and so on.

Runners Set For Bath Half Marathon

Last year nurse Ally Richardson was pounding her way around the Nationwide Bath Half Marathon but this time she will have the honour of officially starting it.

Around 12,500 runners, many of them from Wiltshire, will be lining up for the race at 11am tomorrow - as long as they remember the clocks go forward.

Ms Richardson works for Clic Sargent, the official charity for the half marathon, which is now in its 26th year.

The former runner is looking forward to a different view of the race this year.

She will be supported tomorrow by her two daughters, Ella, nine, and Nancy, seven, who cheered her on from the sidelines last year.

Ms Richardson, from Newbridge, said: “I am really excited and my two children are really excited about it too.

“I ran it last year because I was approaching 40 and I wanted to do it before I was 40.

“I am not a natural runner and it was quite an effort.
