Norwich Union City V City 10K. 3 June 07, who will you run for? - What is it?

The race is on. Who will be victorious?

Norwich Union is proud to introduce our City v City 10K run - pitting three great British cities against one another in a race to be the best.

Three 10K events will take place on Sunday 3 June, in London, Liverpool and Glasgow. The winning city will be the city with the best average time (from all participants) over the 10K course, meaning competition is likely to be fierce.

So you’ve a choice to make: will you run to defend your city’s reputation, or will you leave it in the hands of others?

Seasoned pro or complete novice, your city needs you. Simply register to get involved. In addition to doing your city proud £5 of your race entry fee (£8 for affiliated runners and £10 for non affiliated runners) will go towards the Norwich Union Join Our Team Fund, which aims to provide funding for more than 200 initiatives nationwide. After the race itself you’ll also get the chance to help a local sporting initiative win £50,000 as part of our Join Our Team campaign.

Hit the trail — it’s time for annual races

It’s once again time to lace up your running shoes and hit the trails.

The second West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation-Henry Ford Rock and Road 5K and 10K runs and a kids run are set for Sunday, May 20, at the Recreation Activities Center in the Civic Center complex on Walnut Lake Road.

“It’s good exercise,” Parks and Rec Coordinator Marylynn Balewski said. “And it’s a good chance to enjoy nature.”

The 10K race, which starts at 8:30 a.m., will be a challenging course through residential roads and scenic nature trails. It’s the second year Parks and Rec will use its nature preserve for the spring race.

Last year, a former township employee complained that Parks and Rec shouldn’t have used the preserve for the event because of the potential of vegetation being destroyed.

“The race does not go off the trails,” Balewski said. “Most people respect nature and the rules.”

The 5K event through residential streets begins at 8:45 a.m.

Teenager triumphs in 10k

Sixteen-year-old Arran runner Nicky Emsley was the first local home in this year’s Ormidale 10k, beating his personal best by one-minute and also beating his father’s best by over a minute.

Nicky’s father, Paul, is his coach as well as the organiser of the 10k event, which attracted 42 runners from as far afield as Aberdeen and Stranraer on Sunday.

Nicky, whose mother Jan was also in the race, was delighted with his time of 37 minutes, two seconds and said it felt good to beat his father’s time.

He added: ‘I always hope to beat him and my sister, Jennifer, but it can be tight sometimes.’

Nicky is a member of the successful Arran Runners team.

The teenager finished fifth overall, four minutes behind Girvan AAC’s Kerry Wilson who led from the start. Second and third respectively were Irvine pairing George Irving and Billy Richardson.
