Author's Bio:
Rickey Gates was born in 1981 in Aspen, Colorado, where he grew up. After trying various sports, he took up cross-country at the University of Colorado and then specialized in mountain and trail running. Spotted by the legendary American ultra-trailer Buzz Burell, he became one of the country's best long-distance runners. After excelling in prestigious races (4th in Sierre-Zinal in 2009, 1st in the Canadian Death Race in 2011, 2nd in the SpeedGoat 50k in 2012), he now dedicates himself to more personal projects, which he envisions as experiences at the crossroads of running and gonzo journalism.
In 2017, he ran across the United States to better understand his fellow citizens and the reasons behind Donald Trump's election. Following this, he decided to cover all the streets of San Francisco, totaling 1,800 kilometers, to immerse himself in the reality of the most densely populated city in the country ahead of New York, and the cradle of the high-tech industry.
